This Summer Exhibition at Montgomery City Hall presents works of arts by select semifinalists in the “Alabama Visions: Selections from the Montgomery Art Guild”.
The competition was sponsored by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and the City of Montgomery for an art exhibition in Palazzo Panichi, Pietrasanta, Italy, Montgomery’s sister city. The competition challenged artists to create art works that represented the beauty and charm of Alabama. Since the Italy venue was limited in scale, the selection committee determined to display some of the finest semifinalists at Montgomery City Hall. This Exhibition represents some of the finest works by local artists.
Coming soon is a list of all selected exhibitors!
Thanks to all who entered the Montgomery Art Guild’s 41st Museum Show that opens on Friday, June 12, at 5:30, and congratulations to those whose art was selected.
The interest in the show was outstanding. Michael Panhorst, the MMFA Curator who is coordinating myriad details required to make the show a success comments that “the competition was stiff.” He reported that the juror selected just 98 works by 74 artists from the 439 works entered by 127 artists. This means fewer than one in four works entered will be in the show this summer. The good news is that more than half of those who entered got a work in the show.

The Art at City Hall Gallery is exhibition space that has been provided by the City of Montgomery for members of the Montgomery Art Guild. The Gallery is located on the second floor of the historic City Hall and is viewed by hundreds of visitors each year as well as city, state and international leaders who visit the Mayor’s office.
The Gallery has three shows each year. This year’s Summer Exhibition will be done in conjunction with the biannual Montgomery Art Guild Museum Show. Due to space limitations at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for the MAG Exhibition, there are always many wonderful pieces of art work that are not able to be included into the show. This year the Guild would like to offer artists whose works are not accepted into the museum exhibition the opportunity to show their work to the public at the Art at City Hall Gallery.
