JUROR STATEMENT
It is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to encounter new artists in a community. The broad range of works eligible for submission to the Montgomery Art Guild’s exhibition provides for a diversity of expression which is entirely stimulating to encounter. The contemporary absence of any .xed cannon of subject or style requires some .exibility on the part of the juror so as to be able to measure accomplishment and reward achievement. My goal was inclusion not exclusion. The artists in this exhibition solidly maintain their passion for the power of the physical world, its buildings, fields, trees, grasses, flowers and its inhabitants. Even the most abstract works maintain an echo of that origin. To me what distinguishes this exhibition are those artists who have given a particularly contemporary twist to their pieces, an inner narrative which stimulates questions while maintaining a mysterious poetic reserve of silence. It is a dialogue in time and across time. My congratulations extend not only to the prize winners and those artists selected for the exhibition, but to all those creative individuals who submitted works. The world needs more of you.
